Our Story
Fenton Barns Nursery was conceived in a chance conversation between Caroline and Nicola in 2010 - when both of us had young babies and couldn't find the kind of childcare in East Lothian that we wanted for our families.
Nicola's family own the farm at Fenton Barns and were looking to diversify and Caroline was keen to set up an outdoor nursery - our aims and ethos were the same then as they are now. Whilst also being mums (Nicola to 1 and Caroline to 4!) we bring a unique set of skills as directors - Nicola has extensive experience in management and finance and Caroline is an Occupational Therapist with wide experience in working with children in health and schools. We have been friends for over 45 years and continue to have the same vision for the nursery.
Our eldest children were 2 of the first intake and we have loved seeing them and so many others thrive at Fenton Barns Nursery and onwards at their respective schools. We still believe that excellent childcare in our wonderful rural location, with an emphasis on the outdoors, the environment and healthy living, gives all children the best chance to embrace their next adventures.
We are so proud of the service our fantastic team provide on a daily basis and are excited about the future of Fenton Barns Nursery continuing to be sector leading in outdoor learning provision for Early years in East Lothian.
